2023+ RANGER XP Kinetic Rear Lower A-Arm Removal and Installation

To remove and install the rear lower A-arm on your RANGER XP Kinetic, follow these steps:

1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface, ensure it is in PARK and remove the key. 

2. Remove the wheel from the vehicle. 

  • Using a 19mm socket and breaker bar, loosen the lug nuts while the vehicle is on the ground but do not remove at this time.
  • Safely elevate the vehicle. Reference your Owner’s Manual for proper lifting techniques. 
  • Once safely elevated, remove the lug nuts and set aside. 
  • Remove the wheel and set aside. 
  • Remove upper nut and bushing from the stabilizer bar link with an 8mm wrench and 15mm socket. 

4. Once removed, repeat this process for the remaining rear upper stabilizer bar link.

5. Carefully pivot the stabilizer bar up to remove the links from the bar. Note that the links will be under light tension when removing and may spring outwards. 

6. Remove the lower shock fastener and discard the nut with a 15mm socket and 15mm wrench. 

7. Using an 18mm socket and 18mm wrench, remove the lower bearing carrier fastener, nut, and washer. Discard the nut.

8. Using a 19mm socket and 19mm wrench, remove the lower A-arm fasteners, nuts, and washers. Discard the nuts.

9. Pivot the arm and stabilizer link as an assembly out of the vehicle.

10. If reusing the A-arm, thoroughly clean with a shop rag before reinstalling.

11. Inspect the ball joint and ball joint boot for wear, tears, or damage and replace if necessary.

12. Inspect the A-arm bushings and pivot tubes for damage or wear and replace as necessary. When reinstalling the bushings, ensure the tapered side is facing outwards. Use a flathead screwdriver to ensure the control arm bushings are fully installed inside the arm before installing the pivot seals.

13. If replacing the arm, the stabilizer link will need to be transferred to the new arm and torqued to 18 ft-lb (25 Nm). 

14. Inspect the bearing carrier bushings and pivot tube for damage or wear and replace as necessary. When reinstalling the pivot seals, ensure the tapered side is facing outwards. Use a flathead screwdriver to ensure the carrier bushing is fully installed inside the carrier before installing the pivot seals.

15. Before reassembly, inspect the shock bushings for wear or damage and replace if necessary.

16. Pivot the arm into place ensuring the stabilizer bar link runs up through the center of the upper A-arm. 

17. Reinstall the A-arm fasteners from the rear of the vehicle and secure with new nuts.

18. Align the A-arm with the bearing carrier to reinstall the fastener from the front of the vehicle and secure with the previously removed washer and a new nut.

19. Align the shock with the A-arm and reinstall the fastener from the rear of the vehicle. 

20. Secure the fastener with a new nut.

21. Before continuing, inspect the stabilizer bar link bushings for wear or damage and replace if necessary.

22. Align both stabilizer bar links with the stabilizer bar at the same time, and lower the stabilizer bar onto the links. Note that the stabilizer bar links will be under light tension.

23. Reinstall both upper bar link bushings with nuts onto the stabilizer links.

24. Torque the A-arm fasteners to 81 ft-lbs (110 Nm). 

25. Torque the bearing carrier fastener to 30 ft-lbs (40 Nm) + 180 degrees. 

26. Torque the shock mounting fastener to 44 ft-lbs (60 Nm). 

27. Torque the upper stabilizer bar link nuts to 18 ft-lb (25 Nm) on each side of the vehicle.

28. Install the wheel on the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts until fully seated.

29. Once installed safely lower the vehicle until the tires begin to touch the ground. This will help keep the wheels in place when torquing. 

30. Once lowered, torque the lug nuts to 120 ft-lbs (163 Nm) in a crisscross pattern. 

31. Lower the vehicle completely.
