2023+ RANGER XP Kinetic Front Upper A-Arm Removal and Installation

To remove and install the front upper A-arm on your RANGER XP Kinetic, follow these steps:

1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface, ensure it is in PARK and remove the key. 

2. Remove the wheel from the vehicle. 

  • Using a 19mm socket and breaker bar, loosen the lug nuts while the vehicle is on the ground but do not remove at this time.
  • Safely elevate the vehicle. Reference your Owner’s Manual for proper lifting technique. 
  • Once safely elevated, remove and retain the lug nuts and set aside.
  • Remove the wheel and set aside. 

3. Using an 8mm socket and 10mm wrench, remove the brake line fastener and carefully set the brake line aside.

4. Remove the lower shock mount fastener and discard the nut with a 15mm socket and 15mm wrench. 

5. Use a 15mm socket and 15mm wrench to remove the stabilizer bar link fastener and discard the nut.

6. Remove and discard the tie rod nut with a 6mm Allen socket and 18mm wrench. 

7. Using a soft face hammer, lift upward on the upper A-arm and lightly tap on the bearing carrier to loosen the tie rod end.

8. Remove the tie rod end from the carrier.

9. Using a 15mm socket and 15mm wrench, remove the upper ball joint fastener and discard the nut.

10. Use a soft face hammer to lift upward on the upper A-arm and lightly tap on the bearing carrier to loosen the upper ball joint end.

11. Completely remove the ball joint end from the bearing carrier. 

12. Before continuing, support the carrier with a wire hanger, rope or retention strap to avoid damaging the brake line.

13. Using a 18mm socket and 18mm wrench, remove the upper A-arm fasteners and discard the nuts.

14. Pivot the A-arm out from the vehicle.

15. If reusing the A-arm, thoroughly clean with a shop rag before reinstalling.

16. Inspect the ball joint and ball joint boot for wear, tears or damage and replace if necessary.

17. Inspect the A-arm bushings and pivot tubes for damage or wear and replace as necessary. When reinstalling the bushings, ensure the tapered side is facing out. Use a flathead screwdriver to ensure the control arm bushings are fully installed inside the arm before installing the pivot seals.

18. Reinstall the A-arm and align with the mounting holes in the frame. 

19. Reinstall the previously removed fasteners from the outside and secure with new nuts. Ensure brake line is routed through the middle of the arm for reinstallation.

20. Insert the upper ball joint end into the bearing carrier.

21. Reinstall the fastener from the rear of the vehicle and secure with a new nut. Before continuing, ensure any items used to secure carrier are removed from the wheel well.

22. Insert the tie rod end into the bearing carrier and secure with a new nut.

23. Before continuing, inspect the stabilizer bar link and shock bushings for wear or damage and replace if necessary.

24. Reinstall the stabilizer bar link fastener from the rear and secure with a new nut.

25. Reinstall the shock fastener from the front and secure with a new nut.

26. Torque the A-arm fasteners to 81 ft-lbs (110 Nm). 

27. Torque the ball joint nut to 44 ft-lbs (60 Nm). 

28. Torque the tie rod nut to 30 ft-lbs (40 Nm) + 90 degrees. 

29. Torque the stabilizer bar link nut to 44 ft-lbs (60 Nm). 

30. Torque the shock mount nut to 44 ft-lbs (60 Nm). 

31. Insert the brake line bracket retention tab into the mounting hole in the A-arm and install the previously removed fastener from underneath.

32. Secure with a new nut and torque the fastener to 8 ft-lbs (11 Nm). 

33. Install the wheel on the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts until fully seated.

34. Once installed, safely lower the vehicle until the tires begin to touch the ground. This will help keep the wheel in place when torquing. 

35. Once lowered, torque the lug nuts to 120 ft-lbs (163 Nm) in a crisscross pattern. 

36. Lower the vehicle completely.
