Before you ride your Polaris RANGER 150, perform the pre-ride inspection as described in your Owner's Manual. Failure to perform the recommended pre-ride inspections could result in component failure while riding, which could result in serious injury or death. Always perform the pre-ride inspections before each ride. When inspection reveals the need for adjustment, replacement or repair, perform the service promptly, or see your authorized Polaris Dealer or other qualified dealer for service.
Warning: Read the entire Instruments, Features and Controls section of your Owner's Manual before riding. A complete understanding of the features and capabilities of your vehicle is essential to its safe operation. Anything less may result in serious injury or death.
Tip: During the pre-ride inspections you may use products that are potentially hazardous, such as oil or brake fluid. When using any of these products, always follow the instructions and warnings on the product packaging.
During your pre-ride inspection, do the following:
1. Visually inspect the vehicle, looking for debris, leaks and worn components that may impair the vehicle’s operation.
2. Check the condition of the tires, looking for any sign of punctures or damage.
3. Check the tire pressures and tread depth and verify that they are to specification. The tire pressure should be 5 psi (34.4 kPa) on both front and rear tires.
4. Inspect the front and rear suspension for leaks, debris and damage.
5. Inspect the brake pads and rotors, looking for corrosion, nicks and burrs.
6. Inspect the intake system in the rear of the vehicle for blockage or debris. Clean as needed. Notice: DO NOT spray water directly into the intake system, as this can result in water intrusion to the engine.
7. Ensure the safety flag is properly installed.
8. Next, inspect the fluid levels. Notice: Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface before inspecting fluid levels.
- Inspect the brake reservoir underneath the front of the vehicle for proper fluid level. Add fluid as needed. Tip: Use a flashlight to illuminate the brake fluid reservoir.
- To add fluid, remove the two push rivets securing the front hood panel to the vehicle and remove the panel to gain access to the reservoir.
9. Next, we need to inspect the engine oil level. Notice: Ensure the oil level is checked on a cold engine. A hot engine will appear overfilled.
- Remove the oil dipstick and wipe with a clean shop towel.
- Reinstall the oil dipstick fully and remove it to inspect the oil level. Caution: Operating with insufficient, deteriorated or contaminated engine oil will cause accelerated wear and may result in engine or transmission seizure, which could result in loss of control and serious injury or death.
- Add oil as needed. Caution: Do not overfill. Overfilling can result in loss of engine performance and an oil-saturated air filter. Use a suction device to remove excess oil if overfilled.
10. Inspect the fuel level on the passenger side and add as needed.
11. Turn the key on and inspect the headlight, tail light and brake light for proper operation.
12. Apply the parking brake and ensure the vehicle does not roll.
13. Ensure the side nets are properly secured. Adjust as needed.
14. Ensure the seat is properly adjusted and secured.
15. Most importantly, check the condition and function of the seat belt.
- Pull the seat belt completely out and inspect for cuts, wear, fraying, dirt, debris or stiffness.
- Test the buckle and latch for proper operation. Caution: Always wear a seat belt when riding. The vehicle will limit speed if the seat belt buckle is not latched.
16. Check the steering wheel for smooth operation from full left to full right.
17. Verify proper brake and throttle pedal movement, taking note of any binding or sticking.
18. Start the engine and verify the low oil pressure light is not illuminated.
19. Before allowing children to ride this vehicle, ensure the speed limits are set to your desired setting in the Ride Command app. Find more information in Ride Command For Your RANGER 150 EFI.
