Heavy D: Welcome back to 60 Second Showdown. In this episode, we've got the Polaris Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar versus the Can-Am Defender.
RJ Anderson: This is an interesting matchup. We got the cream of the crop here: the Ranger XP 1000 versus Can-Am's top utility side-by-side. I know who I've got my money on. Let's see how they stack up.
Heavy D: We're back here with Cory from the engineering crew here at the Polaris Proving Grounds.
Cory, you spent a ton of time testing both machines. What do you got for us today?
Cory: One thing you're going to see in this demonstration is the Defender comes in at 250 pounds more weight than the Ranger.
This is really going to come through when we do an acceleration demonstration: zero to 30, then stopping 30 to zero.
You're going to feel that extra weight. The Ranger is quicker to 30 and stops quicker from 30.
Not only that, you're going to feel that extra weight on the ride and handling.
RJ Anderson: That's a wrap for showcasing these two.
So, let's hear what you two have to say about this. Sixty seconds on the clock. Go.
Heavy D: I'm going to start by saying the one thing that nobody really wants to admit: weight matters.
And the Can-Am has 250 additional pounds over the Polaris Ranger. That's like an extra Heavy D you're dragging around with you everywhere you go.
And that affects acceleration. That affects braking. And it affects performance on the trail, especially when you get into those tight spots.
You need to be able to be nimble and, you know, cut through there.
Well, that extra weight makes a big difference. And it just doesn't feel as planted as the Ranger does.
Diesel Dave: Exactly. That extra mass changes the way the machine behaves.
You hit the throttle, you got a hesitation. You mash the brakes, you're feeling it push.
And the Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar just feels lighter on its feet. It's smoother. It's more predictable.
And you can place it easier where you want it.
Heavy D: But there's also the fit and finish factor. The Defender just feels a little clanky, I'll be honest with you.
The bed gap, just the overall fit and finish — not ideal.
And I don't know about you, but the last thing I want to be doing is driving around in the dust bowl.
Diesel Dave: Oh man, we could have kept going on about that for a minute.
Heavy D: But here's the bottom line: lighter weight, better responsiveness, and overall much better construction, fit, and finish.
But don't just take our word for it. Head down to a local Polaris dealership and take a look at a Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar for yourself, and pretty confident you'll be very impressed.
So that's it for this episode of 60 Second Showdown.
Heavy D: This episode is brought to you by the opinions of myself, Heavy D, Mr. Diesel Dave, and the one and only R.J.
