Always wear safety glasses and nitrile gloves when servicing your Polaris RZR. For optimal performance, always use Polaris-recommended fluids as described in your Owner’s Manual. The oil change kit is part number 2881696.
To change the engine oil and filter on your RZR Turbo R, follow these steps:
1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface in a well-ventilated area, and ensure the transmission is in PARK.
2. Start the engine, allow it to warm up at idle for 2 to 3 minutes and stop the engine.
3. Remove and retain the four cargo box panel fasteners. This can be done with the T40 TORX® wrench included in your tool kit.
4. Pivot the panel out and set aside.
5. Carefully clean the area around the oil cap.
6. Remove the oil cap and set it aside.
7. Place a drain pan under the engine crankcase. Tip: Placing a rag in the bottom of the drain pan will help prevent the splashing of oil.
8. Clean the area around the oil drain plug.
9. Remove the drain plug with a 6mm Allen socket, and allow the oil to drain completely.
10. Move to the driver’s rear wheel well and clean around the oil filter.
11. Position a shop towel underneath the oil filter to catch spillage.
12. Turn the oil filter counterclockwise with a 2.5-inch oil filter wrench to remove.
13. Using a clean dry cloth, clean the filter sealing surface on the crankcase and ensure the old O-ring is completely removed.
14. Lubricate the O-ring on the new filter with a film of fresh engine oil, and ensure it is in good condition. A new filter is part number 2520799.
15. Install the new filter and rotate it clockwise by hand until the filter gasket contacts the sealing surface. Turn it an additional three-quarters of a turn.
16. Once the filter is installed, wipe up any residual oil. Ensure there are no shop towels left on the engine.
17. Clean any dirt or debris from the drain plug, and ensure the sealing surfaces are free of any burrs, nicks or scratches.
18. Remove the old sealing washer, and install a new one on the drain plug. A new sealing washer is part number 5812232.
19. Reinstall the drain plug, and torque to 12 ft-lbs (16 Nm).
20. Clean any residual oil off the vehicle.
21. Add the proper amount of the recommended oil through the oil fill cap. Do not overfill. One quart of PS-4 5W-50 oil is part number 2876244. One gallon of PS-4 5W-50 oil is part number 2876245. Polaris PS-4 Extreme Full Synthetic 0W-50 oil is part number 2889396. The oil capacity is 2.75 quarts (2.6 L).
22. Reinstall the oil fill cap and wipe up any residual oil.
23. Start the engine and allow it to idle for 30 seconds.
24. Stop the engine and wait three minutes to allow the oil to drain back into the crankcase.
25. While waiting, inspect the engine for any leaks.
26. Remove the dipstick and wipe with a clean shop rag. Then reinstall the dipstick fully and remove again to inspect the oil level. Add oil as needed to bring the level to the upper mark on the dipstick.
27. Reinstall the dipstick and wipe up any residual oil.
28. Pivot the cargo box panel back into place and reinstall the four panel fasteners.
29. Torque the fasteners to 7 ft-lbs (10 Nm).
30. Dispose of the used oil and filter properly at your local recycling center.
31. Use a grease gun to grease all suspension grease zerks. Your vehicle has grease zerks located on the rear stabilizer bar bushings and on the center joint of the prop shaft. On multi-passenger vehicles, there will be an additional grease zerk on the center propshaft.
32. Move to the rear of the vehicle to clean the spark arrestor. Warning: Allow the vehicle to cool completely before performing any spark arrestor maintenance.
33. Remove the spark arrestor fastener and nut with a 8mm socket.
34. Carefully pull the spark arrestor out of the exhaust and clean any debris on the screen.
35. Inspect the screen for wear or damage and replace if necessary. A new screen is part number 1262390.
36. Reinstall the spark arrestor into the exhaust and align the mounting hole.
37. Reinstall the spark arrestor nut and fastener. Torque the fastener to 7-9 ft-lbs (9-12 Nm).
38. Once complete, the maintenance reminder can be reset in the instrument cluster.
- Turn the ignition switch on.
- Press and hold the mode button to enter the options menu.
- Navigate to remaining service hours and press the mode button to reset them.
- Using the directional arrows, select your desired service hours until the next service and press the mode button to confirm.
- Navigate to exit and press the mode button to return to the main screen.
39. The maintenance reminder can also be adjusted and reset in the display powered by RIDE COMMAND.
