This video covers the installation of the Rhino-Rack® Folding Kayak Carrier (part number 2889883).
Required Tools and Supplies
- 5mm Allen Socket
- Included Tool
- Ratchet
- Torque Wrench
- Phillips Screwdriver
- Soft Face Hammer
- Utility Knife
- Safety Glasses
- Nitrile Gloves
- Shop Rags
For information on tools, read the Tools and Fasteners Guide. Always wear safety glasses and nitrile gloves when installing accessories on your Polaris XPEDITION.
To install the Folding Kayak Carrier on your Polaris XPEDITION XP 5, ADV or ADV 5, follow these steps:
1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface, ensure it is in PARK and remove the key.
2. Align the accessory attachment bar with the rack.
3. Align the bar’s mounting holes with the rack and take note of which holes line up with the rack.
4. Install a spring washer and then a flat washer onto a fastener.
5. Align a channel nut parallel, underneath the aligned hole on the bar and loosely install the fastener assembly into the nut.
6. Repeat this process for the remaining channel nuts and fastener assemblies.
7. Insert the channel nuts into the open slots in the rack and slide the bar to the desired location away from the opening in the rack.
8. Tighten the fasteners until fully seated with included tool. (If torqued, use a 5mm Allen socket.)
9. Install the endcap into the end of the bars and ensure they are fully seated. A soft face hammer may be used to aid in seating the end caps.
10. Insert the retention points of the rubber strap into the groove of the rail and slide the strap in fully.
11. Repeat this process for the remaining rubber strap.
12. Cut off the excess strap with a utility knife.
13. Remove the hold down knobs on the bottom of the kayak carrier.
14. Remove the hold down bar.
15. Release the latches on the sides of the kayak carrier and fold the carrier fully open.
16. Place the carrier over the accessory bar so that the bolts are on both sides of the bar.
17. Install the hold down bar around the underside of the accessory bar and reinstall the hold down knobs.
18. Position the carrier to the fully closed position and close the carrier latches.
19. Ensure the kayak carrier is secure.
20. Loosen the fastener on the cradle and adjust to the desired position with a Phillips screwdriver. Note: Cradle intended to secure paddle.
21. Tighten the fastener until fully seated.
22. Repeat this entire process for the remaining kayak carrier.
