2023 Pro XD Mid-Size Gas Pre-Ride Inspection

Required Tools and Supplies

  • 14mm Socket
  • Torque Wrench
  • Eye Protection
  • Nitrile Gloves
  • Shop Rags

Before you ride, perform the pre-ride inspection as described in the Owner’s Manual. Read, understand and follow all of the instructions, warnings and safety precautions in the Owner's Manual and on all product labels. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or death.

During your pre-ride inspection, do the following:

1. Visually inspect the vehicle, looking for debris, loose fasteners, leaks and worn components that may impair the vehicle’s operation. Pay particular attention to the radiator area for the accumulation of debris, which can cause the engine to overheat, and clean any debris that is found.

2. Check the condition of the tires, looking for any signs of punctures or damage, and inspect the tread depth. Check the tire pressures and verify that they are set to specification.

3. Inspect the rims to ensure they are not cracked or bent. Verify proper lug torque of 36 ft-lbs (49 Nm).

4. Inspect the front and rear suspension for leaks, debris and damage.

5. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat level surface to inspect the fluid levels.

6. Turn the two quarter turn latches on the hood and slide it forward to remove.

7. Inspect the coolant level in the overflow bottle and add coolant as needed. Tip: A flashlight can be used to illuminate the reservoir in dark areas.

8. Realign the hood retention tabs and secure the two quarter turn latches.

9. Inspect the brake fluid reservoir in the driver’s side front wheel well for proper fluid level and add fluid as needed. Tip: A flashlight can be used to illuminate the reservoir in dark areas.

10. Tilt the cargo box up to access the engine.

11. Unlatch the six cover clips from the air box cover and inspect the air filter and air box for dirt, debris, oil or water.

12. Clean the area around the dipstick.

13. Remove the oil dipstick and wipe with a clean shop towel.

14. Reinstall the oil dipstick fully and remove it again to inspect the oil level.

15. Ensure the oil level is between the min and max marks on the dipstick and reinstall the oil dipstick. Do not overfill.

16. Tilt the cargo box down and ensure the cargo box engages with the latch.

17. Verify proper operation of doors, if equipped.

18. Check the condition and function of the seat belts.

  • Inspect the full length of the seat belts for cuts, wear, fraying, dirt, debris or stiffness.
  • Test the buckle and latch for proper operation.
  • Always fasten your seat belt securely before operating or riding. The vehicle will limit speed if the driver’s seat belt buckle is not latched.

19. Turn the key ON and inspect the fuel level, ensuring there is enough for your trip.

20. Verify proper operation of the headlights, taillights, and brake lights.

21. Verify proper operation of the horn.

22. Check the steering system for smooth operation from full left to full right.

23. Verify proper brake and accelerator pedal movement, taking note of any binding or sticking.

24. Start the engine and verify there are no warning lights illuminated.

25. Always practice safe riding by wearing the required safety gear listed in your Owner’s Manual.
