Safety on every road is a key element to riding where you can always learn, advance, and pass along that knowledge to your riding club, family, and beyond.

Gear Up
Make sure you’ve got all the necessary gear for your ride. Think beyond helmets and jackets, always wearing eye protection such as a helmet face shield. Also, consider layering to be prepared for changing weather conditions and to keep you comfortable on the ride. Avoid wearing loose clothing or long scarves, which can become entangled in moving parts and cause injury.
Take A Class
The best riders are informed riders. Before getting on your bike or being a passenger, it’s important to take a training course to understand the rules of the road and how to ride your bike safely—been riding a long time? Look for intermediate courses to learn even more.
Watch The Weather
Weather can make or break a day on the road. Check the forecast before you head out and throughout your day. Remember that the effects of weather on the road can be different when on two or three wheels instead of four.
Check Your Ride
Giving your machine a once-over before you head out is another good way to have a safer ride. Make sure to check your lights, turn signals, tire pressure, oil, and fuel level, just to name a few.
Obey the Rules
Understanding the unwritten rules of the road is important, but following all federal and state laws is a must. Before you hit the road, make sure to look up the laws that apply to your route. Also, make sure to obey all traffic laws, including posted speed limits.
