Recall Summary

Name of Product: Model Year 2016 Polaris RZR XP Turbo ROVs

Hazard:  The engine control unit may allow the engine to continue to run in an extreme overheat condition, which could result in damage to the head or head gasket, which in turn may allow a release of coolant or engine oil.  In addition, the fasteners used to attach the oil drain tube to the turbo system may have been assembled by the supplier with inadequate torque or subsequently become inadequately torqued, allowing a release of engine oil.  The release of engine oil or coolant onto hot surfaces can create a fire hazard.

Remedy: Repair

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ROVs and contact Polaris to schedule a free repair. Polaris is contacting all known purchasers directly.

Recall Details

Units: About 13,000

Description: This recall involves model year 2016 Polaris RZR XP Turbo recreational off-highway vehicles (ROVs).  They have either two or four seats and a rear box.  “RZR” is printed on the rear box and “Turbo” is printed on the hood. “Polaris” is stamped onto the front grill. The ROVs were sold in several colors. The following models are included in the recall.

Sold at: Polaris dealers nationwide from August 2015 through July 2016 for between $24,999 and $27,499.

Incidents/Injuries: Polaris has received 19 reports of the recalled ROVs catching on fire. Polaris has received six reports of burn injuries associated with the reported fires.
