To inspect the track and adjust the track tension on your 850 TITAN Adventure Ultimate, follow these steps:
1. Begin by safely elevating the snowmobile so that the rear track is off the ground. Refer to your Owner's Manual for proper lifting techniques.
2. Put the sled transmission in neutral.
3. Rotate the track by hand to check for damage.
4. Carefully examine the track along the entire length of each rod. Bend the track to ensure there is no breakage.
5. Replace the track if any rod damage is found.
6. If inspection reveals any concerns, see your authorized Polaris Service Center.
7. Inspect the track tension but first ensure the track is warmed up and limber.
8. Measure 16 inches (40 cm) ahead of the rear idler shaft bolt on the track.
9. Apply 10 pounds (4.54 kg) of weight on the track and measure the slack between the track and the rails.
10. Compare the observed slack measurement to specification, which is 1” – 1.25” (2.5 cm – 3.2 cm).
11. If the track requires adjustment, begin by loosening the rear idler shaft bolt with a 15mm socket and 15mm wrench, but do not remove.
12. Loosen the adjuster locknuts on both sides of the track with a 16mm wrench.
13. Tighten or loosen the track-adjusting screws with a 10mm socket to provide equal adjustment on both sides of the track.
14. Repeat the measurement on the other side of the track. Note: Check more frequently when the snowmobile is new. Tip: Before continuing, ensure the transmission is in forward gear.
15. Start the engine and apply a small amount of throttle until the track starts to slowly rotate at least five revolutions.
16. Allow the track to come to a stop without applying the brakes.
17. Check the track alignment and adjust, as necessary.
18. If the track runs to the left: loosen both idler shaft bolts and the left jam nut, and then tighten the left track adjuster bolt.
19. If the track runs to the right: loosen both idler shaft bolts and the right jam nut, and then tighten the right track adjuster bolt.
20. After adjusting, tighten the locknuts until fully seated.
21. Torque the idler shaft bolt to 33 ft-lbs (45 Nm).
22. Once complete, safely lower the snowmobile to the ground.
