Always wear safety glasses and nitrile gloves when servicing your Polaris snowmobile. To change the drive belt, read 2023+ Patriot 9R PRO RMK Slash and KHAOS Slash Drive Belt Inspection and Replacement. To remove, inspect and install the QuickDrive belt on a 2023-2024 Patriot 9R PRO RMK Slash or KHAOS Slash or your 2025 Patriot 9R PRO RMK or RMK KHAOS, follow these steps:
Warning: This procedure applies to sleds that are not equipped with electric start. For models with electric start, please contact your authorized dealer for service. Use caution when working on the QuickDrive system, as hot exhaust components may be nearby. Also use care to avoid pinch points between the sprockets and brake disc.
1. Ensure the snowmobile is on a flat, level surface and set the parking brake. Warning: Before continuing, allow the vehicle to cool completely to prevent the risk of burns.
2. Remove the right-side panel by turning the three quarter-turn latches. Pivot the panel away from the sled and pull out to remove.
3. Remove the push-pin rivet securing the fender to the console with multifunction pliers.
4. Remove the console fastener with a T40 TORX® socket. This will improve access to the QuickDrive assembly.
5. Remove the fastener securing the fender to the footrest.
6. Pull the fender out to release the retention point.
7. Before continuing, place a protective mat on the left side of the sled to prevent scratching the finish when the sled is tipped on its side.
8. Safely tip the snowmobile onto its left side to aid in Quickdrive service.
9. Remove the upper and lower sprocket fasteners and washers with a 15mm socket. Discard both fasteners.
10. Begin working the belt and sprockets off each shaft equally to prevent belt binding. Note: If a sprocket stops moving, it may have been pulled out too far in relation to the other sprocket. Re-align the sprockets and continue working off the drive shafts equally.
11. Once removed, inspect the belt for excessive wear, frayed edges, missing cogs, loose cords and cracks. A new QuickDrive belt is part number 2206046.
12. Inspect the sprocket teeth and surfaces for damage and replace if damaged.
13. Release the parking brake to aid in sprocket installation.
14. The belt and sprockets must be installed as an assembly with the arrow on the belt pointing toward the front of the snowmobile. The flange on the upper sprocket must face away from brake disc. The lower sprocket must be installed flange side in. Tip: Installing a Panduit strap around the belt and between the sprockets will help retain tension on the belt during installation.
15. Install the upper sprocket onto the jackshaft. After the sprocket engages the jackshaft splines, install the lower sprocket onto the driveshaft.
16. Once engaged, slowly work each sprocket evenly onto the drive shafts. Continue working between each sprocket until both are fully seated. Note: If the sprockets will not slide down the splines, the belt is binding. Pull up slightly on the sprockets to re-align the belt and continue working them down evenly.
17. Before continuing, set the parking brake to hold the sprockets in place during fastener torquing. If a Panduit strap was installed, remove it before continuing.
18. Install new upper and lower sprocket fasteners with the retained domed washers. The dome on the washers should face outwards.
19. Torque the fasteners to 44 ft-lbs (60 Nm).
20. Once torqued, safely tip the snowmobile back onto its skis.
21. Realign the lower fender with the footrest and reengage the footrest retention tab.
22. Secure with the previously removed fastener and torque to 71 in-lbs (8 Nm).
23. Continue by reinstalling the lower console fastener and torque to 71 in-lbs (8 Nm).
24. Install the push-pin rivet on the lower right portion of the console.
25. Reinstall the side panel by inserting the upper tab and pivoting in to engage the lower tab.
26. Finally, latch the three quarter-turn latches to secure the panel.
