To remove and install the Front A-Arm on your Sportsman 450 and 570, follow these steps:

1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface, ensure it is in PARK and set the parking brake.

2. Remove the tires from the vehicle.

a. Loosen the lug nuts with a 17mm socket and breaker bar while the vehicle is on the ground, but do not remove at this time.

b. Safely elevate the vehicle. Reference your Owner's Manual for proper lifting techniques.

c. Once safely elevated, remove and retain the lug nuts and set aside.

d. Remove the wheels and set aside.

3. Using a 14mm socket, loosen the ball joint nut until it is flush with the end of the ball joint stud.

4. If necessary, use a soft face hammer and tap the ball joint nut to loosen the A-arm from the joint.

5. Remove and discard the ball joint nut.

6. Continue by carefully separating the hub strut housing from the A-arm, using care to avoid damaging the ball joint boot.

7. Using a 15mm socket and wrench, remove the two rear A-arm fasteners, washers and nuts from the A-arms and discard the nuts.

8. Pull the A-arm out of its mounting points and pivot out from the vehicle.

9. If reusing the A-arm, examine the rubber bushings and end caps and replace the bushings if worn or damaged. Note: The bushing caps may fall out when removing, ensure these are not misplaced.

10. Align the A-arm with the mounting holes on the A-arm welds, ensuring the end caps on the A-arm bushings are still installed.

11. Reinstall the fasteners and washers from the inside and secure new nuts.

12. Torque the fasteners to 44 ft-lbs (60 Nm).

13. Reinstall the A-arm on the ball joint stud and secure with a new nut.

14. Torque the nut to 30 ft-lbs (40 Nm).

15. Reinstall the wheels on the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts until fully seated.

16. Safely lower the vehicle until the tires begin to touch the ground. This will help keep the wheels in place when torqueing.

17. Once lowered, torque the lug nuts to the specifications below, in a criss-cross pattern.

  • Steel: 27 ft-lbs (37 Nm)
  • Aluminum: 30 ft-lbs (40 Nm) plus 1/4 turn

18. Safely lower the vehicle completely.
