The rooftop tent is part number 2890560. View the instructions for this kit by searching the Polaris Accessory Installation Instruction Site.
To install the Rooftop Tent Kit on your Polaris XPEDITION, follow these steps.
1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface, ensure it is in PARK and remove the key.
2. Remove the tent assembly from its packaging, and place the tent with the frame side down.
3. Pull up on the four straps to detach the hook and loop fastener and then remove the straps from the D-rings.
4. Lift the top half of the tent to open. Note: Support the opening portion of the tent to prevent accidental tip over.
5. Remove the toggles from the bottom of the rainfly, unzip and open the panel.
6. Remove the ladder, cover, rods, boot bags, cargo net and other hardware from the tent.
7. Close the tent assembly by folding the upper half over the lower half.
8. Unzip the panel on the upper half of the tent and find the two sets of ladder mounting holes on the inside of the tent.
9. Install one screw and one washer through each ladder mounting hole.
10. Install the bracket and two nylon nuts. Do not torque at this time.
11. Align the ladder with the brackets. Note: Make sure the labels on the ladder are facing upward.
12. Assemble the ladder to each bracket with a screw, nylon nut, washer and spacer with a 10mm wrench and 10mm socket. Torque to 88 in-lbs (10 Nm).
13. Torque the bracket nuts to 88 in-lbs (10 Nm). Note: Make sure the edge of the bracket is parallel to the edge of the tent assembly before tightening nuts.
14. Install the straps through the D-rings and pull the straps tight and fasten with the hook and loop fastener.
15. Assemble the four mounting brackets to the tent assembly. Use two screws and one weld nut plate to attach each mounting bracket with a 13mm socket. Do not torque at this time.
16. Choose the orientation you want the ladder to sit on. Note: The tent can be set up to extend over the driver’s side or passenger side of the vehicle. Make sure the ladder brackets are oriented toward the side away from the desired extension side.
17. Lift the tent assembly on top of the platform rack from the side of the vehicle and slide it into position. The tent mounting brackets must not overlap openings in the rack slots. Tip: Use a second person to help set the tent assembly on the vehicle.
18. Install one rail stud through the slot at each corner of the platform rack and slide the rail stud into the slot on the mounting bracket. Note: The stud should be pushed fully into the slot until making contact with base of the slot.
19. Install a washer and nylon nut on each rail stud with a 17mm wrench. Tighten the nut until the bracket is held flat against the platform rack. Do not torque fasteners at this time. Repeat on the other side.
20. Torque the mounting bracket screws to 106 in-lbs (12 Nm).
21. Torque the nuts to 30 ft-lbs (40 Nm). Note: Torquing these nuts will require the use of a crowfoot wrench. When applying final torque, the crowfoot wrench will need to be at a right angle to the head of the torque wrench.
22. Unfold the travel cover and add the zipper half. Tip: This will make installation of the cover easier
23. Install the cover into the groove on the side of the tent assembly. Note: The groove will be found on the side farthest from the ladder mounting brackets.
24. Open the ladder strap. Warning: Before opening the tent assembly, make sure that the surrounding area is clear of power lines, branches or other obstacles that may come into contact with tent.
25. Extend the ladder to its full length. Each section will lock into place with an audible click.
26. Release the side straps on the tent assembly.
27. Use the ladder to tilt up the upper half of the tent assembly and pull the tent until the base of the tent is flat.
28. Each of the top seven rungs on the ladder has a pair of black buttons on the underside of the rungs. Start at the highest rung of the ladder. Pressing both of the black buttons allows the rungs to be individually collapsed. Warning: Take care to avoid pinching of hands or fingers when collapsing rungs or entire ladder.
29. The second rung from the bottom has a pair of red buttons on the underside of the rung. Pressing both red buttons allows the entire ladder to be collapsed.
30. Collapse the top rungs of the ladder until the ladder is approximately vertical. Warning: Make sure that when the ladder is positioned, the base of the tent is level with the top of roof rack. Make sure that legs of the ladder are on secure ground and cannot slide or move. Failure to support the ladder properly may result in falling or tent damage.
31. Roll up the cover and use the two straps under the tent to hold the cover. If the loop strap cannot be found, lift the tent hinge. The strap can become trapped in the hinge. Warninig: After the tent is deployed, do not drive or move the vehicle.
32. Remove the tent rods from the bag and the toggles from the corners of the rain fly.
33. Install the tent rods by passing the straight end of the tent rod through the slot in the skirt at the base of the tent.
34. Install the straight end of the tent rod into the hole of the tent frame.
35. Install the hook end of the rods into the grommets in the rain fly.
36. Tighten the straps at the corners of the rain fly and unzip the flap above the ladder. Note: Roll up the flap and hold it with the toggles at the top of the tent opening.
37. Attach the LED power cord to the LED strip in the tent.
38. Route the remaining end of the power cord through the slot at the base of the tent and close the flap over the power cord slot.
39. The LED strip power cord can be plugged in at two locations. The first location is the 12V socket in the center console of the vehicle. The vehicle ignition switch will need to be in the ON position to obtain power.
40. The second location is the auxiliary port at the front of the vehicle. Plug the power cord into the adapter then plug the adapter into the power point. Use of this location does not require the ignition switch to be ON. Note: Excessive use of the LED light strip may lead to battery discharge.
41. Install five hooks on the cargo net to the loops on the bottom of the tent base.
42. Install the top edge of the boot bag into the slot at the edge of the tent base. Note: Slide the boot bag into the slot until the top of the boot bag is fully engaged.
43. Install four bungee cords inside the tent and attach the loops on one side of the tent to the corresponding loops on the opposite side of the tent. Note: After first-time setup, bungee cords should be removed while the tent is in use. Re-install the bungee cords before stowing the tent.
44. To close and store your tent, start by disconnecting the LED cord and then remove the boot bags and finish by reconnecting the toggles on each corner.
45. Remove the 8 tent rods and put them in their storage bag and find their spot at the front of the tent.
46. Unroll the travel cover and extend the ladder to full its length, lift and fold the tent over to close.
47. Collapse the ladder to its closed position and attach and tighten the ladder strap.
48. Tuck in any fabric sticking out from the front, rear or side of the tent assembly. Attach and tighten the straps on the front and rear side of the vehicle.
49. Cover the tent assembly with the travel cover and pull sides of the cover down and over the sides of the tent assembly.
50. Zip the travel cover on the remaining three sides. Note: If the ladder brackets are oriented toward the left side of the vehicle, the zipper will start at the front right corner of the tent. If the ladder brackets are oriented toward the right side of the vehicle, the zipper will start at the left rear corner of the tent.
51. Finally, attach the two top straps to secure your tent.
