2. start the engine, allow it to warm up at idle for 2 to 3 minutes, and stop the engine.

3. 0n XP models, lift the cargo box lever and tilt the box up. Tip: For maximum clearance, detach the cargo box shock from the base of the box.

4. On ADV models, remove the cargo tray, release the engine access panel fasteners and remove the panel.

5. On Northstar models, remove the rear skid plate by removing its fasteners with a 10mm socket and T40 TORX®.

6. Carefully clean the area around the oil cap.

7. Remove the oil cap and set it aside.

8. Place a drain pan under the engine crankcase. Tip: Placing a rag in the bottom of the drain pan will help prevent the splashing of oil.

9. On Non-Northstar models, locate the oil drain access hole in the skid plate.

10. Clean the area around the oil drain plug.

11. Remove the drain plug with a 6mm Allen socket and allow the oil to drain completely.

12. On Non-Northstar models, move to the passenger’s rear wheel well and clean around the oil filter.

13. On Northstar models, move to under the vehicle and clean around the oil filter.

14. With a 2.5-inch oil filter wrench and an extension, swivel and oil filter wrench to turn the oil filter counterclockwise to remove the filter and allow the oil to drain through the hole in front of the drain plug.

15. Use a clean dry cloth to clean the filter sealing surface on the crankcase and ensure the old O-ring is completely removed.

16. Lubricate the O-ring on the new filter with a film of fresh engine oil, and ensure it is in good condition. A new filter is part number 2540086

17. Install the new filter and rotate it clockwise by hand until the filter gasket contacts the sealing surface. Then turn it an additional three-quarters of a turn.

18. Once the filter is installed, wipe up any residual oil.

19. Clean any dirt or debris from the drain plug and ensure the sealing surfaces are free of any burrs, nicks or scratches.

20. Remove the old sealing washer and install a new one on the drain plug. A new sealing washer is part number 5812232.

21. Reinstall the drain plug, and torque to 12 ft-lbs (16 Nm).

22. Clean any residual oil off the vehicle.

23. Add the proper amount of the recommended oil through the oil fill cap. The capacity is 2.5 quarts (2.4 L). Do not overfill. PS-4 5W-50 4-Cycle Oil is part number 2876245 for one gallon.

24. Reinstall the oil fill cap and wipe up any residual oil.

25. Start the engine and allow it to idle for 30 seconds.
