Before you ride your Polaris Outlaw 70, perform the pre-ride inspection as described in your Owner’s Manual. Read, understand and follow all of the instructions, warnings and safety precautions in the Owner’s Manual and on all product labels. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or death.
During your pre-ride inspection, do the following:
1. Begin with a visual inspection of the vehicle, looking for debris, leaks and worn components that may impair the vehicle’s operation.
2. Check the condition of the tires, looking for any signs of punctures or damage, and verify proper tread depth. Always replace tires when tread depth is worn to 1/8 inch (3mm) or less.
3. Ensure the tire pressures are also to specification. The tire pressure should be 4 psi (27.6 kPa) on all tires.
4. Inspect the brake pads and rotors, looking for corrosion, nicks or burrs.
5. Check the front and rear suspension for leaks, debris and damage.
6. Inspect the drive chain for proper installation and slack.
7. Remove the seat by pulling up on the rear and lifting back. Then remove the two push rivets and open the air filter access door. Inspect for blockage or debris around the air filter and clean as needed. Avoid spraying water directly, as this can result in water intrusion to the engine.
8. Inspect the fluid level in the rear master cylinder. Add fluid as needed.
9. Close the access door and reinstall the push rivets. Then reinstall the seat by aligning the front tab and pushing down on the rear.
10. Next, inspect the engine oil level. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat, level surface.
- Remove the four push rivets on the oil access panel and remove the panel.
- Remove the oil dipstick and wipe with a clean shop towel.
- Reinstall the oil dipstick fully and remove to inspect the oil level.
- Add oil as needed to bring the level to the upper mark on the dipstick. Do not overfill.
- Then reinstall the dipstick and wipe up any residual oil.
- Reinstall the oil access panel and the four push rivets.
11. Inspect and set the speed limiter as needed.
- Locate the throttle adjuster behind the front left tire.
- Loosen the locknut with a 14mm wrench.
- Turn the stud clockwise with a 14mm wrench to increase vehicle speed and counter-clockwise to decrease vehicle speed.
- After adjusting the stud to the desired vehicle speed, torque the locknut with a 14mm crowfoot wrench to 15 ft-lbs (20 Nm).
12. Operate the brake and throttle levers, taking note of any binding or sticking.
13. Also operate the rear brake pedal and ensure proper operation.
14. Inspect the fluid level in the front brake master cylinder and add fluid as needed. A flashlight can be used to illuminate the reservoir in dark areas.
15. Check the steering for smooth operation from full left to full right.
16. Turn the key on and inspect the headlights, taillight and brake light for proper operation.
17. Press the horn button and verify proper operation.
18. Start the engine and stop it by using the start/stop switch. Ensure it does not restart.
19. Start the engine again and pull the safety tether out. Verify the engine turns off and does not restart without the safety tether attached. Restart the engine once again and make sure the engine turns off with the key.
20. Make sure the safety flag is properly installed.
21. Finish by ensuring there is enough fuel for your trip.
