Matryx Protection Accessory Installation

The above video demonstrates how to install the Sentry Front Bumper (0:20), Elite Pro Rear Bumper (5:05) and Sentry Skid Plate (6:35) on your Polaris Matryx snowmobile. Always wear safety glasses and nitrile gloves before servicing your snowmobile. To install protection accessories, follow the steps below. Before installing any accessories, park the sled on a flat, level surface. 

Sentry Front Bumper Installation
The Sentry front bumper is part number 2884817. View the instructions for this kit by searching the Polaris Accessory Installation Instruction Site.

  • 1/4-inch (6mm) Drill Bit
  • Exhaust Spring Tool
  • Ratchet
  • Torque Wrench

  • Shop Rags

To install the front bumper on your Matryx snowmobile, follow these steps.

1. Remove both side panels by turning the three quarter-turn latches and pivoting the panels away from the sled.

2. Disconnect the two hood latches and lift the hood up slightly to gain access to the connector underneath.

3. Disconnect the connector, and pivot the hood up to remove it from the sled.

4. Remove the spark plug tool by rotating it in a counterclockwise direction and pulling upward.

5. Pivot the spare belt holder upward and remove it from the vehicle.

6. Remove the upper exhaust spring with an exhaust spring tool or pick to help gain access to the right bumper fastener.

7. Remove the fastener and nut on each of the rear bumper mounting points with a 10mm socket and wrench. Note the position of the exhaust spring tab before removing, and discard the locking nuts. 

8. Remove the two screws securing the bumper to the nose pan with a T40 TORX® socket, and discard the screws.

9. Remove and retain the upper bumper support bolt with a 10mm socket and wrench. Discard the nut.

10. After removing the support bolts, remove the bumper by pulling it straight out.

11. Remove and retain the lower bumper support fastener and nut. Discard the nut and retain the bolt for reinstallation.

12. Remove the bumper support from the sled.

13. Locate the indentation on the bottom of the nose pan. 

14. Drill a hole into the indentation with a 1/4-inch drill bit. Ensure all plastic shavings are removed and deburr all edges as needed.

15. Place the front bumper into position, and align the mounting holes.

16. Install the previously removed bolt on the left-hand side, and ensure the electrical ground cable is installed onto the bolt. Once in place, loosely install the provided locking nut.

17. Install the previously removed bolt and exhaust spring tab on the right-hand side of the bumper, and loosely install the new locking nut.

18. Loosely install the two provided screws into the front portion of the bumper near the nose pan.

19. Slide the bottom of the new bumper support into the belly pan slot, and align the mounting holes.

20. Loosely install the upper and lower mounting bolts with the new locking nuts.

21. Loosely install the new lower front bumper screw with a T40 TORX® socket.

22. After loosely installing all bumper mounting hardware, torque all fasteners to 7.5 ft-lbs (10 Nm).

23. Reinstall the belt holder onto the bumper and rotate into place. 

24. Reinstall the spark plug removal tool and secure into place.

25. Continue by reinstalling the exhaust pipe spring on the exhaust spring tab.

26. Reinstall the hood panel, ensuring the tabs in front are properly engaged. 

27. Reconnect the connector underneath, and verify it is secure.

28. Continue by securing the two hood panel latches.

29. Reinstall both side panels by inserting the upper tab and pivoting in to engage the lower tab. 

30. Latch the three quarter-turn latches to secure each panel.

Elite Pro Rear Bumper Installation
The Elite Pro Rear Bumper is part number 2884257. View the instructions for this kit by searching the Polaris Accessory Installation Instruction Site.

  • Torque Wrench

  • Nitrile Gloves
  • Shop Rags

To install the rear bumper on your Matryx snowmobile, follow these steps:

1. Remove the screw and reinforcement plate securing the rear snow flap to the bumper with a T27 TORX® socket.

2. Remove the inner rear bumper mounting screw from each side with a T30 TORX® socket, and discard the screws.

3. Remove the two forward most bumper mounting screws and locking nuts on each side with a 10mm socket and T30 TORX® socket.

4. Remove the rear bumper by pulling straight out.

5. Install the new bumper, and align the mounting holes.

6. Loosely install the provided outer screws and locking nuts on each side.

7. Loosely install the supplied inner bumper screws on each side.

8. Reinstall the reinforcement place and screw. Tighten until fully seated.

9. Torque the remaining fasteners to 6 ft-lbs (8.5 Nm).

Sentry Skid Plate Installation

  • T40 TORX® Socket
  • Impact Drill
  • Pliers
  • Ratchet
  • Torque Wrench
  • Flashlight
  • Safety Glasses
  • Nitrile Gloves
  • Shop Rags

To install the Sentry Skid Plate, follow these steps:

1. Remove both side panels by turning the three quarter-turn latches and pivoting the panels away from the sled.

2. Disconnect the two hood latches and lift the hood up slightly to gain access to the connector underneath.

3. Disconnect the connector, and pivot the hood up to remove from the sled.

4. Using two 10mm wrenches, loosen the two rear bumper mounting fasteners, but do not remove them.

5. Remove the two screws holding the bumper to the nose pan with a T40 TORX® socket.

6. Remove the upper bumper support bolt and nut with a 10mm socket and wrench.

7. Ensure the fuel cap is tight before tilting the sled. A protective cloth or piece of cardboard should be used to protect finished surfaces. 

8. Carefully rotate the vehicle onto its side. Use an assistant as needed to aid in this process.

9. Attach the Sentry Skid Plate under the front bumper mounting tab, and loosely install the mounting bolt and nut.

10. Align the skid plate with the mounting holes and install the three smaller self-tapping screws in the rear of the skid plate with a T25 TORX® bit. Tighten the fasteners until fully seated.

11. Once the skid plate is installed, slowly rotate the vehicle back onto the skis.

12. Install the screws that hold the bumper to the nose pan. Torque to 7.5 ft-lbs (10 Nm).

13. Torque the upper bumper support nut to 7.5 ft-lbs (10 Nm).

14. With a pliers, remove the two push-pin rivets from the lower fender to assist in fastening the rear bumper fasteners.

15. Torque the two rear bumper fasteners to 7.5 ft-lbs (10 Nm).

16. Once torqued, reinstall the previously removed push-pin rivets into the lower fender.

17. Reinstall the hood panel, ensuring the tabs in front are properly engaged. 

18. Reconnect the connector underneath, and verify it is secure.

19. Continue by securing the two hood panel latches.

20. Reinstall both side panels by inserting the upper tab and pivoting in to engage the lower tab. 

21. Latch the three quarter-turn latches to secure each panel.
