To inspect and replace the spark plugs on your RZR Pro R, follow these steps:

1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface in a well-ventilated area, and ensure the transmission is in PARK.

2. Remove the four cargo box fasteners with a T40 TORX® Socket.

3. Lift the cargo box up and out to remove from the vehicle.

4. Remove the four fasteners, four electric harness connections and remove the ignition coils. The rearmost coil fastener can be removed with an 8mm socket, and the remaining coil fasteners can be removed with a 10mm deep well socket.

5. Clean out the plug wells with compressed air to remove any loose dirt or debris.

6. Rinse the plug wells with water and dry with compressed air. Note: Spark plug wells have drain holes built into the cylinder head to allow water to drain out.

7. Carefully remove the spark plugs with the provided spark plug wrench or 5/8” spark plug socket with extension and remove from the vehicle. Tip: If reusing, take note of the cylinders they were installed in for reinstallation.

8. Inspect the electrodes for wear and carbon buildup. The spark plug should have a sharp outer edge with no rounding or erosion of the electrodes.

9. Inspect the spark plugs for the correct color.

  • The normal insulator tip is gray, tan or light brown with few combustion deposits with unburnt and uneroded electrodes. This indicates the proper type and heat range for the engine and the service.
  • The tip should not be white. A white insulator tip indicates overheating caused by an improper spark plug or incorrect throttle body adjustments.
  • A wet fouled insulator tip is black. If it is black, this usually means excessive oil consumption, use of non-recommended oil, or poor fuel quality.

10. Clean the spark plug with electrical contact cleaner or a glass bead spark plug cleaner only. Important: A wire brush or coated abrasive should not be used.

11. Measure the spark plug gap with a wire gauge. Adjust gap, if necessary, by carefully bending the side electrode. The gap should measure 0.9 – 1.0 mm.

12. If necessary, replace with the recommended spark plug, part number 3023413Important: Severe engine damage may occur if the incorrect spark plug is used.

13. Install the spark plugs into the engine and torque to 9 ft-lbs (12 Nm).

14. Apply a light coat of dielectric grease to the bottom of the ignition coils.

15. Reinstall the ignition coils, and ensure they are pushed all the way down, so they engage on the spark plugs. Torque fasteners to 7 ft-lbs (10 Nm).

16. Reconnect the ignition coil harness connectors and verify that the connections are properly secured.

17. Reinstall the cargo box and torque to 31 in-lbs (3.5 Nm).

18. Start the engine to ensure proper operation.
