Position Description: Design, develop, and validate the controls (software & hardware) architecture to ensure system level performance requirements are achieved efficiently & effectively with a focus on flexibility & evolution. This includes controls system development, validation, & requirement decomposition to components for applications across multiple product lines. Work with the core electrified powertrain team, to develop the system level requirements (current & future) & design the controls architecture & roadmap for the systems applied to various products, including systems analysis, systems calibration, & the overall electrified powertrain systems. Work with the Functional Safety team to drive product development at the system level in accordance with ISO26262. Document controls systems requirements, and validation tests & decompose requirements for components/controllers, & develop controls systems design guidelines, best practices, and other processes, tools, & templates. Interface with component/controller development engineers, vendor(s) and Polaris purchasing as needed for component/module development, ensuring system-level functionality is met. Interface with other internal Polaris teams as needed to ensure all functionality is compatible. Manage on bench/vehicle controls system validation of HW and SW including interfacing with technicians for execution. Optimize controls system design and manage re-use to serve multiple product lines and functionality requirements with focus on our strategic roadmap updates team on controls development schedule/status to clarify deliverable expectations. Perform other duties as required. Less than 10% of domestic and international travel required. Polaris has suppliers and engineering teams located globally. Hybrid working schedule available with manager approval; must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Polaris’ office located in Wyoming, MN.

Position Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related, and 2 years of work experience in Electrical Engineering, Systems and Controls, or related occupation. In the alternative, employer will accept a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related, and 1 year of work experience in Electrical Engineering, Systems and Controls, or related occupation. Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, training or experience. Additionally, a qualified applicant’s experience must include the following: (1) Experience with communication networks including CAN, UDS, and J1939, for development of motor controls integration into the vehicle control networks; (2) Experience with industry standard requirement management tools and Simulink software modeling to predict motor performance outcomes in a virtual environment.; (3) Experience with software and/or hardware V&V efforts including MIL/SIL/HIL, unit testing, vehicle testing and related data analysis, and documentation required for proving the robustness of motor and motor control functions; (4) Experience with DFMEA, SFMEA, and Functional Safety to develop motor and motor controls within industry defined regulation and requirements; and (5) Hardware, electronic circuit, environmental protections, and application software experience to provide design assurance and technical assessment of supplier sample submittal.
