We are seeking qualified candidates for a Material Flow Engineer to join the Indian Motorcycle Factory team based at Spirit Lake, Iowa. Fuel your future with Indian Motorcycle.
As the Material Flow Engineer you are responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the flow of parts within the Spirit Lake, Iowa Indian Motorcycle factory. This includes determining quantity of parts needed at the operation and method of delivery using lean manufacturing principles. The BOM, demand requirements, and engineering and model year changes must be considered. The material flow engineer will own the Plan For Every Part (PFEP) database and must be able to work effectively with other groups such as manufacturing and packaging engineering, purchasing, planning, and operations to ensure accuracy of the part data and execution of part changes. The Material Flow engineer will also be a subject matter expert for our Warehouse Management System (WMS) – to help facilitate troubleshooting and drive continuous improvement utilizing that program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
PFEP
- Enter/request new PFEP data
- Update PFEP data
- Monitor demand/usage
- Prepare for Model Year (MY) changes
- Translate PFEP data into case uses across the plants such as repack on receipt.
- Bill of Material analysis
New Product Launch
- Liaison with NPI (New Product) team to drive packaging readiness and improvements
- Material flow representative for production readiness meetings
- Assist with pilot build readiness including staging and delivering parts, determining PFEP for new parts, and reconciling inventory after builds.
Engineering Change Implementation
- Monitor effective dates
- Track/communicate part availability
- Prepare containers, labels, documents, locations, etc
- Implement part with ME/Process Tech
Project Leader
- Lead Continuous Improvement activities
- Participate on kaizen/lean teams
- Support Material Flow initiatives related to the Polaris Production System (PPS)
- Warehouse Management System (WMS) Subject Matter Expert (SME)
- Identify and implement material flow improvements
- Materials lead for digital transformation and automation
Sustaining Tasks
- Monitor all part replenishment (supermarket, high pick, sequence, kit, etc)
- Implement container updates based on usage
- Ergonomics review and tasking to meet departmental goals
Leadership
- Oversee the Warehouse Process Tech Team in both Spirit Lake and Milford Facilities
- Drive accountability and adherence to processes and standard work
- Facilitate and provide direction to achieve department goals.
SKILLS, KNOWLEGDE & EDUCATION
- Strong analytical skills and proven leadership abilities
- Project Management experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or technical engineering is desired; a bachelor’s degree in a related field will be considered.
- Ability to effectively influence and work in cooperation with cross functional teams
- Strong communication, presentation, and teamwork skills
- Strong computer skills and ability to quickly learn new software/applications
- AS400
- Microsoft Office Programs
- Warehouse Management System (WMS)
- Altyrx and Power BI knowledge not required, but a plus
