JOB SUMMARY

Polaris, the global leader in Powersports, is seeking a hands-on powertrain calibration engineer working in a fast- paced testing and field environment.  Specific focus on conducting in-field calibration and development of 2-stroke engines for snowmobiles.

This candidate will develop, implement, and maintain engineering processes and documentation to ensure the thorough calibration and functionality of Polaris engines across varying conditions, elevations, and locations; both domestic and international. 

This candidate will utilize resources across the department through the laboratory, dynamometers and into the field to accomplish the engineering targets, while collaborating with all groups in a team-oriented style.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Primary responsibility for complete engine calibration for snowmobile products

  • This includes the ability to travel for extended periods of the time across the U.S, Canada and International
  • Travel is heavily concentrated during the North American winter season with less during the summer season

Responsible for complete powertrain calibration data file preparation for pre-production through production-based engines that meet targeted vehicle and safety requirements Responsible for interaction and resource utilization across multiple engineering groups and locations Must be able to interact and understand engine control module (ECM) software function and logic

  • Develop alternative calibration strategies and functions, as required

Must be able to collect and analyze data using statistical and analytical techniques Will use sound engineering principles to develop and specify test procedures and equipment necessary to conduct powertrain calibration testing

  • Responsible for data integrity and all technical aspects of the testing process

Will help coordinate testing aspects of engine calibration and development projects

  • Develop test criteria, test plans and system’s requirement specifications
  • Set program goals, objectives, and schedules with help from broader team

Will participate in root cause failure analysis during the development process that pertains to engine hardware

  • Find and recommend practical solutions for specific failure modes as related to calibration parameters, or calibration related engine performance

Instrument vehicles for unique testing according to needs of calibration and development teams, as required Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent
    • Other degrees considered based upon background and experience
  • Direct experience operating off-road vehicles required, enthusiasts preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel across international borders
  • Travel up to 25% of the time

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of 2-Stroke engines preferred
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office software and data analysis tools; Concerto, MATLAB, etc.
  • Experience with calibration tools and vehicle CAN
  • Familiarity with engine dynamometer testing
  • Hands-on experience repairing / rebuilding small engines, automotive engines and two stroke engines a plus
  • Ability to work at high elevations
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to acquire a CDL
