To change the demand drive or front gearcase fluid on your RANGER XP 1000, follow these steps:

For optimal performance, always use Polaris-recommended fluids as described in your Owner's Manual.

1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface, ensure it is in PARK and remove the key.

2. If needed, remove the front tire on the passenger’s side for ease of access and support the vehicle securely with a jackstand.

3. Place a drain pan underneath the drain plug on the bottom right-hand side. Tip: Placing a rag in the bottom of the drain pan will help prevent the splashing of fluid.

4. Clean the area around the fill plug.

5. Remove the fill plug with a 8mm Allen socket and set aside.

6. Clean the area around the drain plug.

7. Remove the drain plug with a 8mm Allen socket and allow the fluid to drain completely.

8. Clean any dirt or debris from the fill and drain plugs.

9. Inspect the O-rings on both plugs, looking for any burrs and nicks. Replace, if necessary. A new fill plug is part number 2203739, and a new drain plug is part number 2203738.

10. Reinstall the drain plug and torque to 11 ft-lbs (15 Nm).

11. Fill the gearcase through the fill plug hole until it reaches the bottom threads and begins to spill out. The capacity is 10-12 fl oz (300-350 mL). 1 quart of Demand Drive Fluid is part number 2877922

12. Reinstall the gearcase fill plug and torque to specification 8-10 ft-lbs (11-14 Nm).

13. Clean any residual fluid off the vehicle and inspect for leaks.

14. Dispose of the used oil properly at your local recycling center.

15. If previously removed, reinstall the wheel and torque to 120 ft-lbs (163 Nm).
