The role will be responsible for ensuring that the cost, schedule, and performance goals are met for their assigned projects/programs per the Polaris Development Process guidelines. This includes BOM cost and budget management and tracking, scheduling, and executing pre-production vehicle builds, critical reviews, and start of production, and ensuring the vehicles are meeting the performance goals set forth at the beginning of the program.  The role will also be responsible for leading the design process of certain components and systems from concept to production to achieve the product program objectives within a specified time.


  • Develops project development schedules including preproduction builds, milestone reviews, and identifies the critical path tasks for the program
  • Track’s project and vehicle cost in detail and completes forecasting exercises
  • Drives issue resolution amongst the design and systems engineering teams in order to keep their assigned project on schedule
  • Supports all design related component styling, purchasing, and manufacturing tasks with emphasis on safety, quality, reliability, delivery, and cost
  • Benchmark competitive design/processes/materials and function
  • Utilize the Polaris product development process
  • Provide direction, coordination, and design trade-offs for designers within the team
  • Coordinates development, layout, testing, drafting, and fabrication to ensure project objectives are met per schedule
  • Lead and participates in design reviews on projects to ensure adequate input and involvement from all engineering and functional groups
  • Analyzes manufacturing and field problems.  Recommends and implements solutions.
  • Performs other miscellaneous project related assignments
  • Component and subsystem level design ownership for ORV structures, driveline, and engine integration ranging from new design concepts to minor design updates and improvements. 
  • Prepare concept models to aid in idea generation, feasibility, and trade off studies. 
  • Develop and implement space claim package protection strategies. 
  • Perform basic analyses of subsystems and components to optimize design requirements. 
  • Create and release 3D models and detailed drawings. 
  • Generate subsystem level requirements based on consumer inputs and vehicle level requirements. 
  • Own and maintain Interface Control Documents for modular subsystems and components. 
  • Participate in Module Integration Teams and Product Design Meetings to assure cross functional requirements are understood and optimized tradeoffs are made in the design process. 
  • Coordinate with the CAE team to prepare for and conduct analysis and virtual build events. 
  • Determines nature and type of electronic models, detail drawings, and analysis required to support the above and supervises their release through the release cycle.
  • Coordinate, mentor, and supervise designers and engineers within the team.
  • Prepares preliminary sketches and/or schematic diagrams and/or presentations to aid in the understanding and solution of engineering problems.
  • Leads or assists in the preparation of the monthly project status report and presentations.
  • Represents the Company at engineering/legal standards conformance meetings; prepares record searches, depositions, site, and vehicle examination reports as required.


  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering required
  • 5 years minimum previous experience in consumer product engineering with preferred experience in new product development process and subsystem architectural layouts with a modular design mindset.
  • Strong influence and project management skills to drive change 
  • Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures to the completion of difficult technical problems and projects
  • Background in diesel powered vehicles preferred, but not required
  • High level of experience with 3-D CAD modeling package required. 
  • Experienced in GD&T, FMEA, dimensional tolerance stack-ups required. 
  • Must be knowledgeable of manufacturing methods. 
  • Basic CAE skills desired (FEA and Optimization). 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with cross functional teams, both internally and externally. 
  • Powersports experience or similar riding background desirable. 
  • Skilled in multitasking and executing many tasks at once

  • Pro-E experience preferred, but not required
