TITLE: Patent Illustrator

LOCATION: Bangalore


REPORTS TO: Ashish Honwadkar


JOB SUMMARY: Polaris is seeking the addition of a Patent Illustrator to support our efforts in protecting intellectual property through utility and design patent filings.  In this fast-paced role, the Patent Illustrator will work with new inventions and cutting-edge technologies, each project providing unique and broad challenges.  The Patent Illustrator will specialize in collaboration with both in-house and outside attorneys along with Polaris inventors to develop illustrations and drawings that reflect unique aspects of Polaris intellectual property assets.  The Patent Illustrator will serve an invaluable role in patent prosecution by illustrating the inventive aspects of Polaris’s technical development


  • Execute patent illustrations with technical software for use in national and international filings
  • Coordinate and manage illustration project tasks, timelines, and deliverables to meet required deadlines and content needs
  • Produce quality detail and assembly drawings in varying styles from various media sources (hand drawings/sketches, photographs, CAD drawings, CAD models, flow charts, electronic system diagrams)
  • Create conceptual level drawings based on detailed CAD models to illustrate inventive concepts without disclosing production intent designs
  • Effectively use all systems and procedures to manage work in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner
  • Prepare requisite drawings for provisional utility applications, non-provisional utility applications, and design patent applications
  • Update drawings based on feedback from Agents, Attorneys, and Inventors


  • Knowledge of US and International utility and design drawing requirements as designated by respective patent offices
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and MS VISIO
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD modeling, specifically Creo/PRO-E (AutoCAD, Solid Works, etc. are all beneficial)
  • Working knowledge of technical drafting and understanding of orthographic, environmental, cross-section, and detail views
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Desire and ability to learn on the fly
  • Strong attention to detail while handling multiple projects and deadlines
  • Must be able to communicate complex concepts in an easy-to-understand format
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Motivated, proactive and confident with a strong drive and will to perform, while also being flexible to handle both large and small projects with enthusiasm
  • Must be able to take ownership of projects and responsibilities in a fast-paced and ever-changing business environment
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust work schedule as needed to complete rush applications for Polaris patent application filings
  • Vocational certificate or Associate Degree in Illustration, Industrial Design, Graphic Design or strongly related field
  • Diploma / Degree in Automobile / Mechanical domain is preferable. Would consider other technical degrees and/or qualifying experience 
  • 2+ years of experience creating similar types of drawings/illustrations
