Job Title:         Sr. CAE Engineer – Aerodynamics & Thermal

Job Location:  Wyoming, MN

Major Responsibilities: Provide insight, technical leadership, and recommendations in the engineering domains of aerodynamics, thermal management, cooling system development, dust and debris collection avoidance, and rider comfort. Work on a team responsible for the design, analysis, and development of solutions for the next generation of Polaris vehicles. Apply mechanical engineering principles using industry leading Computer Aided Engineering software tools such as ANSYS Fluent or GT to aid in target setting and architecture selection, early in design. Influence early design concepts and drive aerodynamic and thermally related design trade-offs within a cross disciplinary team. Interact with and provide aero-thermal analysis project support across multiple product groups using commercial CFD and 1D software codes. Responsible for utilizing analytical techniques to develop and validate cooling system designs considering cooling ambient capability and underhood temperatures; develop cooling system specifications; generate multiple cooling system concepts and maintain analytical master models with accountability to make sure cooling systems meet performance specifications. Assess body panel aero loads including wind loading, roof lift, and vehicle drag force to improve vehicle performance and ensure rider comfort.  Perform dust management analysis and debris collection analysis to ensure safe vehicle operation. Make design recommendations and suggest countermeasures.  Provide input for risk mitigation strategies and recommend design changes when needed. Maximize the CAE model and data value thru data interpretation; responsible for reporting and documentation including work reporting and interpretation to peers and leadership. Champion aero thermal design strategies amongst the engineering design teams.  Lead other engineering design team members in the area of aerodynamics & thermal design to deliver a differentiate riding experience. Contribute to the development of technical specifications and design requirements.  Work in a team-based peer group environment to drive continuous improvement. Implement customer focused Polaris specific CAE tools and best practices, while maintaining focus on automation of the process and continuous improvement

Job Requirements: This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field, and 5 years of work experience as an engineer working with design/release/validation cycle. In the alternative, employer will accept Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field, and 3 years of work experience as an engineer working with design/release/validation cycles.  Additionally, a qualified applicant’s experience must include the following skills: (1) Experience working with ANSYS CFD (Fluent, CFX), PTC Cero, TAITherm, Berkeley Comfort Model, ANSA, SpaceClaim, Rocky DEM, GT-SUITE or similar industry standard CAE tools; (2) Experience with applying Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) numerical methods in order to analyze problems such as: vehicle aero-thermal design principles including heat management, heat protection, aerodynamics, cooling system development, and rider comfort; (3) Experience analyzing vehicle thermal systems interactions and architecture development including: engine, cooling, exhaust, and body components; (4) Experience working in every step of the vehicle development process from concept to production, including experimental correlation and product validation; and (5) Experience reviewing product safety requirements and ensuring compliance.

Travel Requirements: Up to 10% of domestic travel required.
