Required Tools and Supplies

For information on tools, read the Tools and Fasteners Guide. Always wear safety glasses and nitrile gloves when servicing your Polaris Sportsman.

The Full Synthetic Oil Change Kit (part number 2877473) includes a crush washer, oil and a new oil filter. For optimal performance, always use Polaris-recommended fluids as described in your Owner’s Manual

To change the engine oil and filter on your Sportsman X2, Touring and 6x6 570, follow these steps:

1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface, ensure the vehicle is in PARK and lock the temporary brake.

2. Remove the seats from the vehicle.

3. Clean the area around the oil fill cap and remove oil fill cap.

4. Place a drain pan under the engine drain plug. Tip: Placing a rag in the bottom of the drain pan will help prevent the splashing of oil.

5. Clean the area around the drain plug.

6. Remove the drain plug and washer with 6mm Allen socket and allow the oil to drain completely. Caution: Hot oil can cause burns to skin. Do not allow hot oil to contact your skin.

7. Clean any dirt or debris from the drain plug and install a new sealing washer. A new sealing washer is part number 5812232Note: The sealing surfaces on the drain plug must be clean and free of burrs, nicks, and scratches.

8. Install the drain plug and torque to 13 ft-lbs (18 Nm).

9. Move the drain pan below the oil filter.

10. Remove the right-side panels using a multi-function pliers to gain access to the oil filter.

11. Wipe the area around the oil filter and place a rag under the oil filter to catch any spillage.

12. Use an oil filter wrench and turn the filter counter-clockwise to remove.

13. Use a clean dry cloth to clean the filter sealing surface on the engine crankcase.

14. Lubricate the O-ring on the new filter with a film of fresh engine oil and ensure the O-ring is in good condition. A new oil filter is part number 2520799.

15. Install the new filter and rotate it clockwise by hand until the filter gasket contacts the sealing surface. Then turn it an additional 3/4 turn.

16. Use a funnel to slowly add the recommended oil. The capacity is 2 quarts (1.9 L). Do NOT overfill.

17. Reinstall the oil fill cap.

18. Start the engine and allow it to idle for 1 to 2 minutes.

19. Stop the engine and check for any leaks.

20. Remove the dipstick and wipe with a clean shop towel. Reinstall the dipstick fully and remove again to inspect the oil level. The oil level should be between the full and add lines on the dipstick. Add oil as needed. Do NOT overfill.

21. Reinstall the dipstick and wipe away any residual oil.

22. Reinstall the right-side panels.

23. Reinstall the seats and make sure the seats are secure.

24. Dispose of the used oil and filter properly at your local recycling center.
