Marine Design Engineer

Polaris is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join the marine innovation team as Staff Engineer. This is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer who will be responsible for mechanical systems & design from concept to production. You will be collaborating with program architects, subject matter experts, and product management to define key deliverables and create and execute industry-leading designs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains master CAD models and part designs
Ensures designs meet the safety, quality, reliability, development schedule, and cost goals set forth by the platform architect.
Completes design tasks in the Polaris Release System and ensures their timely release.
Ensures production drawings are accurate and properly dimensioned (using GD&T) to deliver Key Product characteristics (KPCs).
Create and maintain component specifications, DFMEA’s, and DVP&R’s.
Own and manage development plans from concept through purchasing and manufacturing ensuring the components meet specifications and build dates.
Organize and lead design reviews to ensure adequate input and involvement from all engineering and functional groups.
Determines the ideal component manufacturing method to ensure overall design, performance, and cost goals are met.
Collaborates with designers and engineers inside and outside of the marine innovation team, this includes engaging suppliers and external resources.
Prepares preliminary sketches, layout, and/or presentations to aid in the understanding and solutions of engineering problems.
Leads and participates in design reviews on an assigned project to ensure adequate input and involvement.
Quantify Systems performance through data acquisition and analysis of test data. Must be able to operate vehicles for the purpose of development and performance evaluation.
Analyze field problems and determine corrective actions/implement solutions.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
BS in Mechanical engineering or equivalent.
6+ years of Marine product or related design engineering experience
Significant experience with a 3-D CAD modeling package required, CREO preferred.
GD&T, FMEA, dimensional tolerance stack-ups, fit & finish.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Quick learner with a high level of ambition and drive.
Strong interpersonal skills, able to work in a small team environment.
Ability to work with and travel to domestic and international technology partners.
Self-starter that thrives in a fast-paced work environment.
Microsoft software including Excel, Project, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Preferred
Strong understanding of the Marine industry and associated technical design, compliance, standards, environment, and application(s).
Experienced with composites, fiberglass, and marine manufacturing methods
Experience with marine jet-propulsion systems and powertrain integration
Experience using PTC Windchill Product Lifecycle Management software
Proven ability to progress mechanical design solutions for complex systems
WORKING CONDITIONS
Some travel required 25-50% for external partner interface, field testing trips, industry shows, etc.
