JOB SUMMARY:

Serves as the primary liaison between the new product design team and the vehicle manufacturing team. Provide manufacturing site support for the electrical systems of off-road vehicles; this includes both New Product Introduction (NPI) projects and serial vehicle production. Provides on-site supplier support as needed. The primary area of focus will be on Polaris Off-Road vehicles with involvement on other Polaris products as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support NPI vehicle builds, including:
  • Provide on-site build support during NPI vehicle builds
  • Audit electrical routings
  • Flash software on controllers as needed
  • Verification of vehicle electrical system functionality and troubleshoot issues as needed
  • Assist with vehicle electrical system timelines and material delivery for builds
  • Pre-Build material identification, inspection, and preparation
  • Collaborate with manufacturing team to develop robust manufacturing processes related to the electrical system
  • Review of Visual Work Instructions and Engineering Routing Documents
  • Assist with virtual builds
  • Coordinating post-build rework as needed
  • Provide on-site support for Incident Reports related to manufacturing
  • Serve as liaison between the product development team and the manufacturing end-of-line-test team.
  • Assist with Bill-Of-Material creation and maintenance
  • Assist with fastener/hardware selection
  • Support serial vehicle production, including:
    • Assembly line vehicle electrical system support (support assembly operators, investigate and diagnose assembly issues, etc.)
    • Review of Visual Work Instructions and Engineering Routing Documents
    • Audit electrical routings
    • Assist with assembly torque issues and resolution
    • Support assembly process enhancements as related to the vehicle electrical system
    • Investigate alternate part proposals
    • Support the plant quality team with inspections of electrical components
    • Vehicle electrical system troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with electrical suppliers
    • Participate during development of new designs
    • Support Design-For-Manufacturing activity
    • Provide on-site support to vendor sites for Current Production and/or NPI programs as needed
    • Facilitate and host vendor support visits to Polaris facility
  • Participates in collaborative design reviews on projects
  • Establish and maintain a small-scale electrical lab with capability to troubleshoot and rework harnesses and other electrical components
  • Assist with bolted joint development and any other mechanical attributes related to the electrical system
  • Actively engages with the Manufacturing team to ensure robust manufacturability of the electrical system
  • Actively engages with the Validation and Field Support teams to resolve validation or customer issues and work to resolution
  • Performs other miscellaneous electrical assignments as required.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • B.S. or higher in an accredited Engineering curriculum (Electrical, Mechanical, Robotics or Mechatronic)
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Minimum 2 years experience in new product design
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Prior experience with MCAD required. Prior experience with ECAD preferred but not required. Prefer previous Creo and Mentor Capital Harness experience.
  • Basic understanding of electrical fundamentals
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on ability
  • Experience with the routing of cables and flexible components desired. Superior technical knowledge as demonstrated by academic or on-the-job experience and broad practical experience in design.
  • Decisive and prone to action – self starter
  • Attention to detail while managing significant complexity on multiple concurrent programs
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and quickly work towards issue resolution
  • Ability to work with domestic and international technology partners.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Some travel required (up to 20%) to support vehicle builds and interface with suppliers (US and International)
  • Fast-paced office and lab environment
