
Logistics Planning Manager

The Manager of Outbound Process, Cost and Continuous Improvement will oversee a team of (3) Analysts and contractor that will collectively work to identify opportunities and implement changes to improve cost, service and quality in the outbound supply chain. Additionally, the manager will ensure that outbound operational processes are standardized and documented and will have responsibility to drive improved outbound freight budgeting and forecasting processes.
Provide leadership and strategic vision for the team of analysts and supply-chain engineer, including supporting employee development
Improve and standardize data visibility from 3PL’s (Transportation Management, Freight Payment, etc), establish data warehouses to enable KPI dashboards
Ensure accuracy and completeness of data from 3PL’s and partner with ops finance to establish improved processes to tie freight activity to payments and GL coding
Develop detailed annual outbound budgets and quarterly freight forecasts in conjunction with ops finance and the outbound ops manager; budgets and forecasts should be clearly tied to performance goals and cost drivers
Establish process to summarize and report comprehensive actual outbound freight costs and cost drivers vs budget on a quarterly, monthly, and weekly basis
Monitor and manage performance against budgets; develop and implement corrective actions when performance is not in line with budget
Partner with logistics sourcing and outbound operations teams to develop and implement a process to forecast space and carrier capacity needs for outbound shipping based on SIOP and business unit outputs; forecasts should be communicated to our 3PL providers at regular intervals
Utilize cost and service data/metrics to identify opportunities and implement changes that will reduce costs or improve service through network, provider or systems changes
Utilize supply-chain engineering tools / software (Llamasoft/JDA) to consistently analyze outbound network for optimal cost, service and quality performance
Drive and deliver annual outbound VIP (Value Improvement Process) cost improvement goals as established in budgeting process; provide leadership for overall MP&L VIP program
Ensure all outbound shipping, handling and planning processes are documented, standardized and reviewed regularly; perform audits to provide assurance that processes are being followed
Develop and implement an improved crate forecasting process; eliminate crate shortages
Support the outbound operations team by providing actionable metrics that they can use to drive performance (lead time, on-time ship, cost) improvements with our service providers
Partner with internal IS, and 3PL IS teams to further develop and automate current logistics reporting
Participate in NPI and PDP work streams to ensure outbound logistics costs are accurately accounted for in financial projections for new products
Partner with operations team to develop, implement and execute process to seamlessly integrate new products into the outbound supply chain
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain or related field
5+ years logistics experience
2+ years of team management experience
Proven track record of cost reduction, problem solving and process improvement
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and initiatives within budget limits and time constraints
Strong financial acumen
Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and motivate others
Team player with proven ability to establish collaborative cross-functional working relationships and lead teams towards a common goal
Exceptional analytical skills and ability to summarize data into executive dashboards (Excel, Alteryx, Power BI)
Inquisitive, desire to get into details to understand and solve complex problems that impact our customers
Strategic vision and ability to properly evaluate trade-offs to manage and balance logistics costs, service and quality
Experience developing and presenting PowerPoint presentations; expected to present to operations and executive leaders
Operates with a sense of urgency to address issues and opportunities for improvement
Preferences:

- Automotive / powersports logistics experience
