Job Title: Sr. iSeries Administrator
Job Location: Plymouth, MN
Major Responsibilities: Responsible for the IBM i database environment which includes designing, implementing, and supporting these core infrastructure services. Responsible for assisting the product teams with new system design, implementation, and testing of mission-critical business systems. Implement changes into development, QA and production environments and monitor database and system performance. Implement complex or non-routine data models and database designs and data access and table maintenance. Resolve complex database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication and other distributed data issues. Confer with and advise development groups on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods. Consult with application development teams and advise them of the correct usage of appropriate data manipulation techniques. Responsible for space management, backup, monitoring, and maintaining ongoing performance of databases and develop updates or modifications according to business needs. Monitor and review the work of other database administrators to ensure correct practices and procedures. Mentor team to improve their understanding and skill and ensure they are familiar with resource materials including manuals and systems. Design technical solutions and prepare implementation methods to be performed by other DBA team members. Design, implement, and maintain database security strategies that provide the appropriate level of security for users and applications. Configure new and existing technology solutions according to best practices. Assess complex projects with a variety of requirements quickly, correctly prioritize tasks, provide accurate time estimates, and complete tasks in a timely manner while communicating changes and updates. Utilize advanced technical knowledge to analyze, log, track and resolve complex software/hardware issues. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and issue resolution. Adhere to and promote existing ITIL processes and standard procedures. Develop standards and processes for Level 1 and 2 staff. Provide remote support for our global operations. This position will require participation in a rotating on-call schedule for 24x7 global support.
Job Requirements: This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Information Technology, or in a related technical field and 5 years of corporate IT experience as an IBM i / iSeries Administrator in a global environment, or similar role. Additionally, a qualified applicant must have experience with the following: (1) Utilizing DB2 database management system products and tools in order to store, analyze, and retrieve data; (2) Using database physical and logical design principals and tools in order to model logical designs, establish relationships between data object entities, merge relationships, normalization and physically implementation; (3) Designing, developing, and maintaining databases; (4) Monitoring, diagnosing, and troubleshooting overall system signatures thereby understanding the CPU, memory and disk usages and issues; (5) Managing and deploying application database modifications; (6) Utilizing tools such as IBM i Collection Services to monitor, diagnose and troubleshoot issues; Visual Explain to advise and diagnose optimizer recommendations; (7) Utilizing performance tools such as IBM iDoctor and Job Watcher to collect, investigate and analyze performance data; (8) Experience writing SQL and programming in order to understand and analyze complex SQL stored procedure code and make optimization recommendations; and (9) Designing, implementing, and maintaining database security strategies that provide the appropriate level of security for users and applications.
