Job Summary:

  • Staff Test Engineer for the Acoustics & Vibration (A&V) group is responsible for the evaluation, data collection and analysis of components, assemblies, and full vehicles. Which directly supports vehicle programs, and their desired acoustic and vibration performance.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the vehicle program throughout development cycle with assessments, testing, root cause, and issue resolution.
  • Work with system engineers, suppliers, and program teams to develop targets for vehicle, system, and component levels. Using benchmarking, physical testing, simulation, and engineering experience.
  • Develop or follow predetermined tests to evaluate NVH performance.
  • Work independently and in small teams to instrument, collect data, analyze, and report on A&V characteristics.
  • Plan and carry out investigations related to vibrational energy transfer through our vehicles and their propensity to generate objectionable noises.
  • Work within a team of Test and CAE engineers to develop, measure and validate component to vehicle performance, provide recommendations, and work to improve system designs.
  • Write, prepare, and present summary reports and findings.  
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Physics. (Doctoral Degree in Engineering preferred.)
  • 8+ Years of direct NVH experience
  • Demonstrate excellent mechanical aptitude. Prior development test experience a plus.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of acoustics and mechanical vibrations.
  • Experience in system dynamics as it relates to NVH testing and analysis methods.
  • Airborne noise and vibration test and evaluation methodologies: absorption coefficient, modal analysis, transfer path analysis, sound transmission loss testing, etc.
  • General data collection and understanding of digital signal processing.
  • The ability to coordinate across multiple programs to plan and support vehicle testing.
  • Solid troubleshooting skills for issue resolution.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed. (10-15%)
  • Ability to ride & drive Polaris products or willingness to learn.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Strong functional knowledge of driveline, transmissions and/or powertrain systems.
  • ICE Powertrain, ePT and driveline design or testing experience.
  • Overall vehicle testing and development experience.
  • Ability to function and act independently - self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Strong competency in various acoustic and vibration analysis tools. (LMS Test.Lab experience is preferred)
  • Knowledge of analytical tools like Ansys, Altair, GT-Power, Matlab, etc.
  • Subjective evaluation skills for powertrain and vehicle level testing.
  • Familiarity with Regulatory Compliance Testing.
  • Proficiency in digital signal processing, sound quality metrics, modal analysis, or other specialization.
  • Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Powersports knowledge and passion to deliver for the customer.
