We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to join our Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) team. As the Senior Architect for chassis structures, you will lead the successful pre-development of the next-generation SxS and ATV structural framework including items such as the chassis frame and ROPS, bumpers, and other structural members.  You will bring a modular design mindset to develop long-lasting architectures that drive reduced part count where appropriate.  You will work closely with key stakeholders to manage technical trade-offs while optimizing solutions for eventual product introductions.  Participate in technology and strategy discussions for all Polaris ORV vehicles.  Use lessons learned from previous Polaris programs, competitors, and other industry sources to better Polaris' structural design and platforming.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the overall technical maturity of the next-generation SxS structural architectures for new platforms. 

  • Work with the current structural design team for active projects to attain commonality with future projects where possible.

  • Work with the Platform Architect in the completion of technical requirements for the targeted modules and drive effective resolution to conflicting requirements.

  • Work closely with Subsystem SMEs and Architects to assure appropriate trade-offs are evaluated between the relevant subsystem and structural requirements.

  • Drive modularity by developing and communicating module bandwidths while assuring an appropriate cross-section of product models utilize each module variant.

  • Lead concept creation and high-level design activities on all ORV structures

  • Responsible for planning and coordinating interfaces with other systems.

  • Work closely with manufacturing and NPI team to develop processes and part break-up strategies to achieve a cost-effective and high quality and consistent product that meets both the product performance and dimensional requirements.

  • Initiate and maintain schedules, DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, cost estimates, and other PDP deliverables.

  • Mentor and support the development of other engineers.

  • Interact and direct resources across multiple engineering sites and work collaboratively with on/offshore resources to support design development in the most efficient means.

  • Work with Safety, Quality, and SME Engineers to interpret, develop, and ensure adherence to internal and external requirements.

  • Stays abreast of cross-product line issues and applies learnings to new structural modules.

  • Assist or lead the development and deployment of new technology solutions.

  • Perform and support benchmarking of vehicle structures and mating systems.

  • Mesh effectively across the organization: program management, customers, systems and design engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, testing, and senior management.

  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Skills, Knowledge & Education Required:

  • BS or MS in mechanical, aerospace, or agricultural engineering

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in the design and analysis of structural systems

  • Extensive understanding of manufacturing methods (stampings, castings, forgings, tube bending, hydroforming, welding, bolted joints, bonding, etc.) and associated tolerancing

  • Deep level of technical knowledge pertaining to new vehicle design and development

  • Passion for modular design, product excellence, and systems engineering approach

  • Knowledge of design risk management tools (DFMEA, HARA, etc.)

  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills

  • Knowledge of all phases of the product development process

  • Testing and Validation Experience

  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills

  • Self-motivated and possess the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment

Desired Skills & Knowledge:

  • Experience with Ansys, Hyperworks, or similar CAE tools

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and influence

  • Overall vehicle, attribute, and functional hardware knowledge

  • The ability to drive vehicles for development and testing purposes
