Job Title:         Engineer, Design

Job Location:  Roseau, MN

Major Responsibilities: Responsible for leading the design process of Powertrain related components and systems from concept to production in order to achieve the product objectives within a specified time. Establish a reasonable project development schedule from concept to production implementation in line with overall business requirements. Support all design related component styling, purchasing, and manufacturing issues with emphasis on quality, reliability, timely delivery, and cost. Determine ideal component manufacturing route to ensure overall design, performance, and cost conformance. Determine nature and type of electronic models, detail drawings, and analysis required to support the above and track their release through the release cycle. Coordinate, mentor, and influence designers and engineers within the team. Prepare preliminary sketches and/or schematic diagrams and/or presentations to aid in the understanding and solution of engineering problems. Participate in design reviews on projects to ensure adequate input and involvement from all interested groups. Analyze field problems and recommend possible solutions. Assist in the preparation of the monthly project status report. Represent the Company at engineering/legal standards conformance meetings; prepare record searches, depositions, site, and vehicle examination reports as required. Perform other miscellaneous project related assignments. Up to 10% international and domestic travel required (Occasional travel to suppliers, trade shows and consumer venues to support marketing requirements and interact with the customer and dealer base).

Job Requirements: This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Physics, Metallurgy or in a related field, and 3 years of experience in Mechanical Systems or related field.  Additionally, a qualified applicant must have experience in the following skills: (1) Experience using a 3-D CAD modeling package such as CREO or Solidworks; (2) Experience with design, operations, and testing, including two stroke and four stroke thermodynamics processes, operation, and manufacturing processes of engine components, of one or more of the following Powertrain Design Categories: Engine Architecture, Power Cylinder, Crank train, Cylinder Head, Crankcases, Valvetrain, Intake and Exhaust Systems, Fuel Systems, Lubrication Systems; (3) Experience with engineering, designing, calculating component loading and component stresses analyzing structural stresses of a component and systems, and properly selecting materials and processes in order to design complex forgings, castings and machined parts; (4) Experience with identification, implementation and leading complex component and system designs and process changes to improve those designs and process methods with tangible and measurable results in efficiency and/or performance; (5) Experience with leading and contributing to root cause analysis and problem solving of complex mechanical issues specifically related to engines and/or engine components; (6) Experience working with GD&T, FMEA, FEA, CFD analysis tools in performing multiple component assembly dimensional stack calculations; and (7) Experience coordinating with domestic and international technology partners including but not limited to suppliers, contract engineering services, marketing staff and consumers.
