Polaris Racers Sweep Stock & Mod Classes in Winning 10 of 12 Pro Men’s Classes
MEDINA, Minn. (March 4, 2014) – Polaris snowmobile hillclimbers won 10 of 12 Pro Men’s classes and two of three Pro King of the Hill honors as they dominated the competition at the Afton (WY) Hillclimb held Feb. 28-March 2. Keith Curtis achieved a rare sweep, winning all five Pro Men’s classes in which he competed as well as two King of the Hill run-offs. The Afton Hillclimb was this season’s second Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Hlllclimb (RMSHA) points event.
Polaris Pro Men won all four Stock classes, all four Mod classes, and two Improved Stock classes as they claimed 21 of 36 available podium positions at Afton.
Polaris racers won all three Amateur classes, won the Juniors class, and won a Semi-Pro class and the Semi-Pro King of the Hill title. Plus, Polaris racers won two of three Women’s classes and the Queen of Queens title.
Pro Men: Curtis Leads the Way With Pure Sweep
Pro Men are allowed to enter five classes at each RMSHA event, and while Polaris racers have often won multiple classes on a weekend, winning all five classes is extremely rare.
Keith Curtis achieved a pure sweep at Afton, winning the finals in all five classes in which he was entered and both King of the Hill run-offs. Curtis won the 600 Stock, 800 Stock, 1000 Stock, 800 Mod, and Open Mod class titles. He then won the Stock King title on his 1000 Stock sled, and won the Mod King title on his 800 Mod sled. Curtis said it was the fourth time in his career he had achieved such a sweep at an RMSHA hillclimb.
Polaris racer Erin Beukelman won the 1000 Improved Stock and 700 Mod classes, finished second in 800 Improved Stock, and was second in the Improved King of the Hill competition.
Also winning class titles on their Polaris sleds were Brandon Titensor in 600 Improved Stock, Cole Willford in 600 Mod, and Luke Rainey in 700 Stock.
In dominating the podium throughout the finals, Polaris racers finished 1-2 in five classes – 600, 700 and 1000 Stock, and 800 Mod and Open Mod – and they finished 1-2 in the Mod King of the Hill runs.
Along with his 700 Stock victory, Rainey reached the podium three more times with two seconds and a third, and he finished second in the Stock King of the Hill runs.
Polaris Racers Dominate in Semi-Pro, Women’s & Amateur Classes
Polaris racer Jesse Hotchkiss won the Semi-Pro Improved class, then won the Semi-Pro King of the Hill contest. Andy Thomas finished second in Semi-Pro Stock and Semi-Pro Mod.
In the Women’s classes, Kaycee Balls won the Women’s Mod class, while Shelley Heap won Women’s Improved, finished second in Women’s Stock, and won the Queen of Queens run-off.
Polaris hillclimbers swept the Amateur classes, with Tanner Meyers winning the Stock class, Justyn Heater taking first in Improved and Kameron Devish winning the Mod class. Chet Marshall reached the podium twice, finishing second in Stock and Mod.
Polaris racers finished 1-4 in the Junior class as Tanner Meyers won and was followed, in order, by Jaden Cook, Brock Sharp, and Tristan Spencer.
The next event on the RMSHA schedule will be the White Pine Hillclimb at Pinedale, Wyoming, March 8-9.
