Polaris Oval Racer Nick Van Strydonk Opens Season With Two Wins At Beausejour; Wahl Bros. Drivers Pile Up Top 5 Finishes
Defending oval racing World Champion Nick Van Strydonk (T&N Racing) won both Pro Champ 440 finals on his Polaris-powered race sled during the Canadian Power Toboggan Championships that kicked off the oval racing season Dec. 8-9 at Beausejour, Manitoba, Canada.
Joining Van Strydonk on the podium after each Pro Champ 440 final was Brandon Johnson (Wahl Bros. Racing), who finished third both times.
In Saturday’s final, Polaris racers Dustin Wahl (Wahl Bros. Racing) finished fourth and Matt Ritchie (Ritchie Motorsports) was sixth. In Sunday’s final, Polaris racers joining Van Strydonk and Johnson in the top 10 were: 4. Jordan Wahl (Wahl Bros. Racing); 5. Dustin Wahl; and 9. Matt Ritchie.
The success of Van Strydonk and the Wahl Bros. Racing drivers came as no surprise to race fans and the media, including editors at SnowGoer.com, who listed Van Strydonk and Dustin Wahl in the Top 5 Oval Racers for 2012-2013. The editors noted that the 22-year-old Van Strydonk “has been around oval racing for a long time and his team builds very good equipment. Look for Van Strydonk to run up near the front all season long.”
The editors called Dustin Wahl “The elder statesman on the mega-powerful Wahl Bros. Racing Team out of Greenbush, Minnesota,” and said he “is certainly capable of getting on a roll. The former Snow Week Racer of the Year has had dominating seasons, and he and teammates Brandon Johnson and Jordan Wahl have excellent equipment at their disposal.”
Van Strydonk and the Wahl Bros. Racing drivers will compete in events hosted by a variety of oval racing sanctioning bodies this winter. The 50th annual Eagle River (WI) World Championship Snowmobile Derby will be held January 17-20, 2013, and the 51st annual Canadian Power Toboggan Championships will be held at the famous Beausejour track on March 2-3, 2013.
